Why is my Ford airbag light on?

Crash data is stored in the RCM after an accident. This cannot be cleared with an OBD scanner — only a memory-level reset works.

Do I need to program the module after reset?

No. Your original module returns plug-and-play with the correct VIN and configuration.

Which Ford models do you support?

Nearly all Ford RCM-equipped vehicles: F-150, Super Duty, Escape, Explorer, Fusion, Mustang, Ranger, Expedition, E-Series, Transit, and more.

Which part numbers are supported?

Most Ford RCMs including 5L2T-, 6L2T-, 7L14-, 8S4T-, 9L14-, AE5T-, AG5T-, BG9T-, DG9T-, and F1ET- series.

How long is the turnaround?

2–3 business days once your module arrives.

What if the light stays on after reinstall?

Remaining faults are usually from sensors, seatbelts, wiring, or occupancy systems — not the module.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes — 1-year warranty on the reset procedure.

Ford Airbag Module Reset Service

If the air bag light is on in your Ford after a collision, battery event, airbag deployment, or electrical surge, the most common cause is crash data stored in the RCM (Restraints Control Module). Ford RCMs permanently record crash events and deployment information inside the module’s memory, which cannot be erased by standard OBD scan tools. A Ford airbag module reset is required to clear this crash data and restore full SRS function.

Module Repair Lab offers a professional Ford RCM / SRS module reset service that eliminates crash data, restores communication, and returns the original module ready for plug-and-play reinstallation in the same vehicle. This avoids expensive module replacement or dealer programming and ensures perfect compatibility because the VIN and configuration stay matched to your Ford.

Why Your Ford’s Airbag Light Stays On

Ford RCMs (also known as SRS modules, Airbag Control Modules, or ACMs) use a memory architecture that “locks” after certain crash conditions. Common Ford warnings include:

  • RCM Crash Event Storage Full
  • Deployment Commanded
  • Event Information: Crash Occurred
  • Restraints Control Module Fault
  • Airbag Light Flashing – repeating code pattern”

Once this crash data is recorded, no Ford or aftermarket scan tool (IDS, FDRS, Techstream, Snap-On, Autel, etc.) can clear it. A memory-level reset is the only solution.

What This Reset Does NOT Cover

This service clears crash data only. It does not repair:

  • Clocksprings
  • Impact/crash sensors
  • Damaged wiring or connectors

All physical SRS components must be repaired separately before reinstalling the reset module.

How the Process Works

  1. Place your order on this page.
  2. Remove the RCM (usually mounted under the center console, front dash, tunnel, or behind trim panels depending on model).
  3. Package safely and ship it to Module Repair Lab.
  4. We perform the SRS module reset and verify all communication.
  5. We ship the module back within 2–3 business days.
  6. Reinstall and scan the vehicle. The airbag light should remain off once all SRS components are functioning properly.
